Recognized by the Chicago Tribune as a “Remarkable Woman”, Marisa Buchheit is known throughout the city of Chicago as Miss Chicago 2012, and also as a talented operatic soprano, a philanthropist, an events producer, and a publicist. A native Chicagoan and a recent graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music—where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance with Academic Honors and a German minor—Marisa has distinguished herself as a top emerging talent in the city. On the operatic stage, Ms. Buchheit was featured in all of the 2012 season shows with American Chamber Opera, including the role of Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. Her upcoming engagements include a concert at the Chicago Cultural Center as part of the Classical Monday Series as well as performing the role of Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) in Italy during the summer of 2013 with the International Lyric Academy. As a pageant titleholder of the Miss America system, Marisa has performed and made countless appearances at venues ranging from Chicago’s Civic Opera House to North Avenue Beach, where she sang the National Anthem to kick off the 2012 Chicago Air & Water Show. Marisa currently holds the title of Miss Heart of Illinois 2013, and will be advancing to the Miss Illinois stage this June in hopes of earning her way to Miss America.
Currently, Marisa is VP of Marketing for Candid Concert Opera and publicist for Price Rubin & Partners Management. Marisa is also an advocate for music education in the community, serving as vocal program director at Josephinum Academy and substitute teacher at the Merit School of Music. She recently founded and hosted a charity fashion show that featured live opera singers on the runway called “Fashion of the Opera”, as a benefit for the Merit School of Music. Marisa is also a marathon runner and a longtime vegan. In November 2012, she was interviewed on FOX News Chicago promoting a cruelty-free Thanksgiving through her partnership with PETA and the Chicago Diner. She served as Grand Marshall for the inaugural Veggie Pride Parade in Chicago in June 2012, and she has been a positive influence to many through her advocacy and involvement with the vegetarian community.
